The biblical accounts of angelic announcements, the journey to Bethlehem, shepherds and magi are all found in the gospels written by Luke and Matthew.  John tells the story of Jesus starting with a heavenly perspective.  And only in light of John's prologue can we appreciate the full meaning of Jesus' birth.
